Swim team news
Hello Stingrays,
We are looking forward to getting back in the water! We ask that you very carefully read all the information about our swim team this year.
If this is something you are interested in, please join SORA and then register for the team. Do not purchase any extra t-shirts or merchandise as these items will not be available this year. We will accept family donations to help our financial situation (see more below). Even though there are required volunteer sign ups, many of these will be waived.
If you have already registered and do not wish to participate, we will refund your fees.
The program this year will be a conditioning and skills workout format while focusing on fun and safety. Swim meets with other teams are not planned at this time. We will have internal time trials and intra-squad competition and swimmers will work on new strokes and bettering their own times.
Coaches will not be in the pool to help swimmers this year to limit the physical contact between people. Without coaches in the water, it is imperative that each swimmer must be able to swim the length of the pool (25m) unassisted. Therefore the beginner / half lapper / swim lesson part of the program will not be available.
Since two of our main sources of revenue (swim meet concessions and sponsorships) will be either non-existent or very minimal, each swimmer's $35 fee will only cover about 5 weeks of coaching.
Each swimmer must have a waiver signed (see extra Covid verbiage this year) and dues paid (member of the pool and signed up for swim team) to enter the water.
We will start practices on May 27, 2020 under the supervision of Jake Jennings and hopefully a couple of junior coaches. We will offer an assessment / tryout on May 26 (5-6pm) to see your child meets the minimum skills requirement (you can do this before registering).

Once we know how many swimmers are in each age bracket, we may need to adjust these start times to accommodate each group. There will be no dry-land warm up, each swimmer should stretch before coming to the pool. We recommend swimmers be on the grounds only during their practice times.
We are excited about having a fun, positive experience for all of our Stingrays this year, so we will need your help. Please make sure your swimmers understand social distancing guidelines before the first practice. We will have visual aides to keep swimmers 6 feet apart, but they need to responsible to follow them. We will need to carefully follow the SORA rules and clean up after our swim practice. Please bring your own PPE, hand sanitizer and/or disinfectant wipes if you'd like to stay to watch practice. Please have an understanding of your risk of being affected by Covid.
Lastly, in order for us to continue our program this year, we will need a new Treasurer, Website Manager and Practice Monitors. If you are interested in volunteering, please email Kate Patrick at [email protected].
Thanks and Go Stingrays!
