Meets and Events
Practice/Swimming on Meet Days: We will have practice on swim meet dates unless the meet falls on a Monday. No practice on Mondays. However, the Coaches ask that no swim team member be at the pool for open swim after practice on meet days. All swimmers should go home and rest.
Half Lappers: Half lappers will only swim at the home meets. A half lapper is a 6 & under swimmer who cannot swim the length of the pool in under 1 min, 5 sec. Half Lappers compete before the home swim meet at 5:45pm.
Warm -ups: Each team gets time to warm up before the meet. If you arrive late, you miss your chance. Arrival time for all swim meets is 4:45pm
What should Swimmers bring? All swimmers should wear their team suit and team shirt (write your name on the label). Swimmers should bring goggles, chair, towel (name on it somewhere, please), healthy snacks, water and some entertainment for long waits (cards, books, games, etc.). Also bring a ziplock with your name on it for ribbons. Girls should bring swim caps! From experience, goggles, when not in use, should be kept around your neck. Please keep your area clean and throw away your trash. LABEL EVERYTHING! ***Leave electronics at home! They're too susceptible to getting lost or wet!***
Marking your child: Your child will be marked by the ready bench parent.
What should Parents bring? Chairs, Sharpie, Heat Sheets (a sheet protector to keep it dry), Camera, Ziploc for ribbons, money for concessions, patience, and humor.
Where to sit: Swimmers must immediately find their ready bench area and check in with their ready bench parent. This is the area they need to sit and stay for the duration of the meet. Kids cannot go sit with their parents nor can non-swimmers sit in the ready bench areas. Parents need to bring their own lawn chairs and must sit in designated areas. The deck is reserved for meet officials.
Swimmer's Responsibility: It is the child's responsibility to be ready to swim at race time. Swimmers must remain with their age group until all events are completed. If your child comes to talk to you during the meet, please direct them back to the ready bench area as the meets run smoothest when we aren't trying to track down a missing swimmer. It is also the child's responsibility to clean up his/her trash before leaving the swim meet.
MSBSC's Sportsmanship Policy will be enforced. Parents please familiarize yourself and your swimmer with the league's policy. Remember, no alcohol should be present at swim meets. Click here for the MSBSC sportsmanship policy.
Heat Sheets will be available to print from our team website at 2:00pm the day of the meet. Please be sure to print your copy before you arrive at the meet. You may download the heat sheet from our website or follow on the swimtopia app.
After Swim Meet Dinners - Dinners after swim meets are always lots of fun! We will meet at Taco Cabana at Clay Road and the Beltway. Hope to see you there.
Rain Outs - Meets will not be called until after 7:00 p.m. Even if it is thundering and raining at 5:30 on the day of the meet, go to the meet. Houston weather has a way of working itself out. Our Motto: When in doubt, come on out! Make up days will be Tuesday or Saturday morning.
All communication about meets, practices, and any changes in the schedule will be done via email, REMIND text messages, as well as the team website, and team facebook page. If you have any questions or email address changes, please contact the team at stingrays@sorapool.
